For the love of Barrie – in the fall.

For the love of Barrie – in the fall.

There is so much to discover in the beautiful city of Barrie. From its lively arts and culture scene to fun family weekend activities, there is lots to do in Barrie that’s fun for you and the family! Although COVID-19 regulations are still in effect, there are still tons of activities that you can participate in throughout our city. These are just a few of my favourite things to do once the leaves start changing colour in Barrie that are both fun and safe and might even make you want to call Barrie your future home!

Rounds Ranch

Whether you’re planning a fun pumpkin-picking day with the family or looking to get a few great pics for Instagram, Rounds Ranch is a family-friendly farm with lots to enjoy throughout spring, summer, and fall. Right now, until October 31, head on down to this Elmvale farm to pick the biggest pumpkin you can or try out their challenging cornfield maze! To learn more and purchase tickets, check out their website here.

Chappell Farms

Another great family-friendly farm experience. From the beginning of September until the end of October, Chappell Farms hosts their annual Fall Festival! Although there are certain time regulations due to COVID-19, there is still lots to enjoy on this farm such as visiting the animals, a hay bale run, a tricycle track and so much more! Chappell Farms is located a couple of minutes North of Barrie and is well-worth the trip. You can learn more about the different activities available by checking out their website.

Culture Days

Find your creative place and join in the nation-wide fun with Culture Days! This year, instead of just an annual weekend of events, they’ve extended the fun over four weeks. Until October 25, Culture Days invites you to join in and show your love for the arts in your own way. Also, as part of the Economic Recovery Plan, the City has collaborated with the Downtown Barrie BIA to bring Culture Days programming to Open Air Dunlop, the pedestrianization of a part of Dunlop Street. Dunlop Street East will be closed to vehicle traffic from Mulcaster Street to Clapperton Street for four Saturdays (morning until midnight) beginning September 26.

The public is welcome to bike or walk along the street to check out the downtown’s newly constructed streetscape, visit a local patio or shop, and discover local artists and their works! Remember, COVID-19 social distancing protocols are in effect still so don’t forget your mask and stay 6 feet from others while you wander.

Autumn in the City

Fall in love with downtown Barrie and see what’s new to discover. From the extended patios, the pumpkin trail, or the Barrie’s Farmers Market, there’s tons to enjoy and treat yourself to! Discover local artists, take a walk and check out local shops, or enjoy a meal on a patio at one of Barrie’s award-winning restaurants. Learn more about Autumn in the City here!

The Barrie Film Festival

Another great draw of the artistic flair our city has is the annual Barrie Film Festival. These stunning short feature independent films are usually held in the cinema but, because of COVID-19 they aren’t able to screen them as they would in the past. That didn’t stop the hardworking team of volunteers that run the festival though as they have created a virtual cinema program that you can check out here.

Stunning Waterfront Trails

Whether you bike, walk, jog, or just like to wander once in a while. I always love taking the time to explore the gorgeous waterfront of the City of Barrie. From the water fountain to the Rotary clock, military park, and sculpture work, there is something to look at no matter your vantage point.

The list is endless as to why you should choose to move to Barrie, such as life by the lake or its lively downtown scene. Whatever it may be holding you back from your decision, just take a trip to Barrie and see for yourself how beautiful and vibrant the city truly is. Need to hear more as to why you should move to Barrie? I can convince you! As a mortgage broker working and living in Barrie, this city is a great choice for you and your family to live in.
